If
you are being battered, think ahead. Make a safety plan in
advance for you and your children. Know exactly where you
could go, even in the middle of the night, and how to get
there.
Pack
an overnight bag in case you have to leave in a hurry. Hide it
yourself, or give it to a friend or neighbor to keep for you.
Pack extra sets of clothing for you and your children,
toiletries, and extra sets of house and car keys. Hide extra
cash, your checkbook or savings account book in a safe place
or with a trusted friend.
Pack
important papers such as birth certificates, social security
cards, green cards, passports, drivers license, title to the
car and proof of insurance, medical cards and records,
etc.
If
you feel your safety is in danger, get out of the situation
even if you haven't had a chance to plan the above!
