A Safe Place maintains a
beautiful shelter home facility at a secure location in the City of
Oakland. It accommodates twenty (20) women and children. Clients may
reside in the facility for a maximum of eight (8) weeks. Families are
housed in individual rooms, which are furnished with all the necessities for
themselves and their children. These rooms are comfortable and
well-maintained, with a moderate degree of privacy. Residents participate
in the cleaning, cooking, and caring of their children. In the event the
shelter is full, clients are assisted with accessing shelter at one of the two
other shelters in Alameda County. If all local shelters are full, clients
are housed in participating local motels until a shelter vacancy occurs.
Their average stay at a motel is up to five days.
During the eight-week
residential stay, a variety of support services are provided, including
peer/professional counseling, provision of all basic necessities (including all
food and clothing needs), emergency transportation to and from the shelter and
other safe locations, assistance with legal, court and social service needs, a
children’s program (including counseling), daily support groups, and household
establishment assistance.
